What's the difference between Affect and Effect

Posted on 03-Apr-2017

Many of us must be getting confused when to use affect and effect while speaking or making sentence. These 2 words are frequently confused, though different in meaning.

Affect is used as Verb

Affect is used when we discuss about the impact / influence of some action.

Example: Crops will be severely affected this year due to late monsoon.

Effect is used as Noun, but also some time it is used as verb.

When we discuss about the consequences of some action then we should use effect. Effect is a noun so we can use article (a/an/the) before this.

Example: Motivational lecture has a positive effect on our daily life style.
